RTP and Volatility Explained
What RTP and volatility mean, how they differ and why neither predicts your next spin. A clear guide from Wealthy Man Club.
Open a slot's information panel and you may see two terms: RTP and volatility. Both describe the game's maths, but they tell you different things. Understanding them helps you read the rules without mistaking a percentage for a promise.
What does RTP mean?
RTP stands for Return to Player. It is the theoretical share of total stakes a game is designed to return as prizes over a very large number of plays.
A slot with 96% RTP has an expected return of 96 EUR per 100 EUR wagered in the long run. That does not mean a 100 EUR deposit will leave you with 96 EUR, or that any particular session will follow that average. Total stakes include winnings that are wagered again.
For that example, the theoretical house edge is 4%. RTP does not tell you when a win will arrive or how large it will be.
What does volatility mean?
Volatility describes how much results can vary. Lower volatility games generally distribute prizes through smaller, more frequent wins. Higher volatility games tend to include larger, rarer prizes and greater swings in results.
Neither rating guarantees a winning session. A low volatility game can still lose money, and a high volatility game can have long stretches without a substantial win.
Why the difference matters
Two slots can have the same RTP and different volatility. Their long-run expected return may be similar while their short-term results vary quite differently.
On random slots, earlier wins or losses do not make the next spin more likely to win. A losing streak does not mean a payout is due.
Where to check
Before playing at Wealthy Man Club, open the game's help screen or paytable. Look for its RTP, volatility information where provided, payout rules and feature details.
Set your spending and time limits before you start. Treat these figures as information about the game, rather than a way to predict your next result.
18+. Play responsibly.
